Today we are going outskirt of Amsterdam to Volendam, a fishing village 20 km away. Thereafter, we will be taking a ferry to Marken, another smaller fishing village, onwards by bus to Broek In Waterland before returning to Amsterdam. We took a bus at Amsterdam Central Station bus stop and the ride is about 45 minutes. Buses to Volendam are nos. 110, 118 & 316. Don’t worry about which bus color or company to take, just find the one with the number you want.
You will want to get down at AMVO Restaurant & Partycentrum at Volendam town and it will be a short walk to the harbor. Alighting from the bus at AMVO, turn right and a few steps away at the corner of the building (roundabout), turn left and walk all the way to the harbor. If you need information, there is a tourist information counter inside Volendam museum just across the street. Avid photographers, Volendam harbor is picturesque and so is Marken.
Contrary to what is written in Tripadvisor that Volendam is another tourist packed destination, on the day we went, there was NO tourist buses in sight. Only a handful of tourist around.

Taking the bus from Amsterdam Central Station bus stop. Just look for the route number on the bus display. If you are curious what the letters are on the roof, it’s A-M-S-T-E-R-D-A-M.

Walk pass Volendam Museum and a little further down to your right is Volendam morning market. Not sure whether this is a daily or a Saturday only market as we happen to be there on Saturday. On Google map, this location seems to be a car park.

Don’t miss trying out a meal here. Their sea food are delicious. It just a stall in-front of the waterfront near the pick-up point for the ferry to Marken. No table or chairs here.
