October 2016
Caversham Wildlife Park is a 30 minutes drive from Perth. Our main intention of visiting is to see kangaroos and koalas. The entrance fee of $28, is the highest of any attractions we’ve been to in Western Australia. The park is independently owned, operated and managed without government assistance.
Inside, maps of the park is well-marked showing the areas of diverse range of wildlife and show times. The walk through the kangaroo enclosure was fantastic, lots of tame kangaroos. You can touch and pat them safely. By early afternoon when we were there, the kangaroos seems to be overfed as offering of food pallets doesn’t excite them anymore. They were just lazing around and enjoying the warmth on the grass and sandy grounds amidst their own droppings which we found difficult to avoid. The kangaroos looks tired and not active but makes photographing easier.
We then head over to Molly’s farm to watch the farm show. Here you’ll see trained dogs rounding up the sheep, whip cracking, sheep shearing, kids feeding the little lamb and visitors having a chance to milk a cow. Nothing extraordinary. From here, we moved on to the Koala’s enclosures and we got to see Koalas up close. As it wasn’t time for the Koala show, we just took photographs from behind the enclosures.
The other animals in the farm.

Everything about the park is basic. The kangaroos and koalas are obviously the star attraction for foreign tourist, but the rest of the park is dull. The other attractions are what can be seen in other zoos. For the admission price, we’ve been to better zoos elsewhere. We left after watching the farm show and stopping by some animals on the way out. If not for the farm show, we would have left within 45 minutes.
