Burano Island is 11 km from Venice and take 45 minutes to reach by water bus. You can catch the no. 12 water bus from Fondamente Nove ‘D’ in Venice to Burano.
Burano is a small fishing village and while the men are out at sea, the women folks pass their time knitting lace. Burano laces are known for their intricate quality but a lace blouse could cost €100 upwards. Go bargain hunting and a lace table-cloth that sits 6 could be had for €39. There are a number of restaurants and they specialise in sea food. The ‘Al Gatto Nero Da Ruggero’ restaurant, acclaimed by Jamie Oliver is here too.
For the avid photographers, Burano is a photo spot not to be missed. The colorful contrasting painted buildings is a pleasure to photograph.
The colorful painted buildings of Burano Island. On some buildings, the color has weathered down while a couple have fresh paint. About the main reason we came to Burano is to photograph these colorful contrasting buildings. You’ll get brighter and richer photos of buildings that are against the sun rather than those in the shadows.
