October 2016
Having nothing on our itinerary today, aka ‘Free & Easy’ we decided to drive along Perth’s coastal roads from City Beach right up to Boston Mindarie Quay a distance of about 46 km from our hotel. As one can only expect sunset on the coastal side of Perth, thus this post is titled ‘Sunset Coast Self Drive’ whilst the drive was actually in the morning. So no sunset pictures.
Our first stop is at City Beach for the view of the beach and then onto the West Coast Highway pass Scarborough to Hillarys Boat Harbour with a stop at Sorrento Quay boardwalk, a small mall. At the harbour, plenty of private yacht and pleasure boats are docked and within a short walking distance, is Hillarys Harbour Resort. You can also catch a ferry to Rottnest Island here.
We then proceeded to drive to Boston Mindarie Quays which in our opinion is an up-scale residential area. Like Sorentto Quay, yacht and boats are docked here. What makes this area exclusive are houses built right to the edge of the waters where one can dock their boat right in-front (back?) of their residence. The area is still under development as near completed houses are still under construction.
Leaving Boston Mindarie Quays in the late afternoon, we decided to head for Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Mall for lunch. It is a big mall and we spent a while window shopping. For Muslim visitors, there are two halal outlets at the food court (ground floor) for your convenience.
(TQ Stuart for pointing the discrepancy between Boston & Mindarie. Google map indicated us so. Our e-mail to you bounced )
