Before proceeding to Hyden, we made a quick detour to Emu Point Boat Harbour. It is located a few kilometres from Albany City Centre. Although not much to see here for tourists, the harbour at Emu Point is where one would take the reputed Kalgan Queen Riverboat scenic cruises from. We did not take the cruise as it’s a 4 hours cruise which we did not have time for. At the harbour, several Pelicans awaits your visit. You could get quite close to the Pelicans for photos without scaring them away.
Emu Point beach not far from the harbour, has shallow waters that leads gradually to a pontoon about 100m out. Swim laps or gaze into the harbour and watch pelicans glide over the water. There is plenty of shade and a triple terrace grassed area is ideal for picnic where everyone can sit comfortably with a clear view out to the waters. The calm shallow waters is safe for children to wade and swim. Emu Point beach is also popular for fishing and boating. At the end of the road, there’s Emu Point Cafe where you’ll take the small roundabout for a u-turn to exit.
