The O2 Arena

Day 2 – The O2 Arena, London

April 2015

As we walked back from Emirates Aviation Experience toward North Greenwich underground to head to our next destination, The O2 Arena is conveniently in between.

The O2 arena, is a multi-purpose indoor arena named after its main sponsor, the telecommunications company O2. It has the second-highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the UK but is the world’s busiest music arena. The closest underground station to the venue is the North Greenwich station on the Jubilee line and is within a few minutes walking distance.

Day 2 – Emirates Aviation Experience, London

April 2015

Upon exiting Emirates Greenwich Peninsula station, we stumbled upon Emirates Aviation Experience just beside it. It’s a small facility bringing insight into the world of aviation. Being an aviation enthusiast and a radio control flyer, it naturally got my attention. With an admission fee of £3 in we went.

Inside, you’ll get an insight into the operations and modern achievements of commercial air travel. It also houses two each, a B777 & A380 flight simulator. At £45 for a 30 minutes simulator experience, that’s heavy on the pocket. All-in-all, if you’re a r/c flyer like me, you wouldn’t miss much skipping this attraction.

Day 2 – Emirates Air Line (Cable Car), London

April 2015

Start of Day 2, it’s Emirates Air Line (Cable Car)

The Emirates Air Line is a cable car link across the River Thames. It was constructed with the sponsorship from the airline Emirates. Why it’s called ‘Air Line’ instead of Cable Car baffles me. From the cable car, you get spectacular views of the city from heights of 90 metres as you travel between Emirates Greenwich Peninsula and the Emirates Royal Docks vise versa. Avid photographers  take note, the cable car is an ideal photo spot.

We got there by exiting the North Greenwich underground, walked pass the O2 and onwards to Emirates Greenwich Peninsula where the ride (flight as termed in website) starts. The ride takes 10 minutes end-to-end. If you require to take the train from Emirates Royal Docks, the nearest would be the DLR Royal Victoria. Over at the Emirates Royal Dock, we just walked around and then took the return ride back to Emirates Greenwich Peninsula. The return ticket cost £6.80 with an Oyster card.

When we arrived at Emirates Greenwich Peninsula around 10:00 a.m, the whole area was misty. So the views from inside the cable car was slightly hazy as can be seen from our photos.

From the Emirates Royal Docks, the O2 arena is very visible.

Exiting right of the Emirates Royal Docks, there’s a ‘halal’ food stand.

Unfortunately, the stand was still closed, so we were not able to try their food. There were also no sign when the opening hours and days of operation are.

After a few minutes strolling around the Emirates Royal Docks, we decided to return to Emirates Greenwich Peninsula as the wind is a little chilly for us.
